Becoming a Registered Supporter Checklist
On 01/11/2025 the regular and authorised representative roles in My Aged Care ended and were replaced by registered supporters. A supporter helps the older person make and communicate their own decisions. Being registered does not give decision-making authority on its own, and nobody can be registered without the older person's consent.
General information, not financial, legal or clinical advice.
The Checklist
- The older person agrees and understands the role.
- Have both Medicare cards and contact details ready.
- Register by calling My Aged Care together on 1800 200 422, using the online "Register a supporter" form, or downloading the Registration of a Supporter form.
- Know your duties: act in good faith, respect the older person's decisions, and manage any conflicts of interest.
- If someone holds a legal appointment, such as a guardian or enduring power of attorney, ask My Aged Care how to record it.
