Designing for the Participant: What Voice First Really Means
The participant view in Wayly is voice first. Here is why that matters and what we got wrong on the first version.
Voice first means the participant should be able to do the most important thing without reading. The most important thing is usually telling a caregiver that something is wrong.
We started with menus. We thought a participant would search to find what they needed. They did not.
Now there is one screen. Today's appointment in big text. Two buttons. Call the primary caregiver, or tell them something is not right. Both go to the caregiver instantly.
Everything else, budget, statements, history, is reachable but does not compete for attention.
The lesson. Design for the worst day, not the best day. The worst day is when something is wrong and the participant cannot find how to say so.
